I like the spirit of this definition, but I feel that this definition doesn’t account for the inevitable uncertainty of life.
Say, I have a day job in which I get to spend my days doing work that I love. That certainly make me a happy guy, but does that give me freedom? Does it give me independence? For me financial freedom includes a safety net for the hypothetical day where things go sour.
Let’s say my perfect day job turns into the perfect nightmare – could I walk away without worrying about my bills, even if I wouldn’t find the job of my dream instantly? That would be financial freedom for me.
